COURSE DESCRIPTION
These two days will guide the students from a basic introduction in epidemiology to causal inference, study design, meta-analysis, validity of studies, interpretation of basic statistics, and screening methodology. This wide range of epidemiological tools will be discussed in such a way that the students can immediately apply these skills in their daily clinical or scientific practice.


HOW IS COURSE TAUGHT?
A combination of lectures and tutorials.


WHAT WILL I GET OUT OF IT?

The course has the following objectives:

  • To obtain an overview of the concepts underlying clinical epidemiology
  • To understand current clinical applications and future perspectives of patient data analysis
  • To appreciate why study design is critical to epidemiology and why epidemiology is critical to clinical studies
  • To interpret the results of statistical inferential procedures including p-values, confidence intervals, and risk ratios.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The course is designed for a wide range of public health professionals (junior clinical researchers, medical research fellows, nurses ...) and scientists with various backgrounds in academic and industrial setting, as well as PhD students with an interest in clinical epidemiology.
